Why you NEED a positivity playlist – VickiAmaya

To put it simply, because it makes you feel fucking good!

I’m currently sat on my bed, developing a tan, listening to one of my five absolute classics for my own positivity playlist songs. It’s so good that I’m having a little boogie, flipping my ponytail around, throwing my hands in the air, you get the gist…

If you don’t have five go to songs that can pull you straight out of a down day, then you can steal mine from below but I urge you to seriously personalise your positivity playlist.

I started my own (mental) playlist back in 2012 when I had my bad patch (read about that here). There was one song that would always pull me out of a deep, dark depressive day. I related to each verse and the chorus just nailed the resolution. I am of course talking about Shake It Out – Florence and the Machine. It’s one of those songs that just penetrates the soul and really gives you the pep talk you knew you needed!

Since then, I have slowly amassed a small anthology of songs that will perk me right up in four minutes or less (estimation). However, of all the songs there are five that really build me up and lift those dark clouds.

– The Playlist –

  • Shake It Out – Florence and the Machine
  • Darlin’ – Avril Lavigne
  • Fuck You – Sleeping With Sirens
  • My Heart Will Go On – Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox
  • Looking Up – Paramore

I mean, I do also sing these songs at the top of my little lungs so that probably helps. Each one has that perfect message for pulling you away from the downward spiral that you can get trapped in.

So, why not create your own positivity playlist and please feel free to throw it my way, I would love to add to the above with your suggestions!

Until next time lovelies,

MUA Eyeshadow Palette Review with other Goodies

I promise, I am not in any way sponsored by Make Up Academy (MUA) but I am in LOVE with their products! The babes at B The Agency sent me a few treats (Less than a month ago too), thank you SO much.

Spoiler alert, I am OBSESSED! Make Up Academy is a brand that provides the perfect mix of affordability and quality. I have never had a product from them that I didn’t love. Without further Adieu:

MUA LUXE – Light Lustre Highlight Duo

I received three of these little duos and they are the perfect size for popping in your hand bag for a quick highlight fix up mid way through your day. The three shades I have are:

Splendour – White and Turquoise – Both Powders

Majesty – Pale Peach and Yellow Gold – One Cream, One Powder.

Lavish  – Pink and Lilac – Both Powders

If you’ve read my previous posts you know that I am in no short supply of highlighters at the moment. This does not mean that I haven’t passed up the opportunity to whack these babies on my cheekbones though. As this is from the MUA LUXE range of products, I had high expectations. The previous LUXE product I used provided amazing pigment, coverage and longevity. I did notice a little bit of fading with these throughout the day but the sheen was still hanging in there gone 10 hours in. All three palettes have a silver undertone to the highlight.

Lavish holds its Pink and Lilac pigment very well while Splendour is slightly more subtle with its tone. My favourite of the trio is Majesty (Surprise, Surprise) because the cream highlight looks incredibly warm and feels very lightweight on the skin. Plus who doesn’t love an opportunity to rub gold highlight all over themselves.

MUA PRISM – Holographic Stick – Mystical Moonstone

I am ALL about the iridescent glow at the moment and this stick just spoke to me. The shimmer from this packs an incredible punch. I actually dabbed a little on my boyfriend so that I could test it on other skin tones and he is now gleaming (which is a good sign). While I am a more yellow tone, he is definitely pink toned and this Make Up Academy miracle stick worked amazingly on both tones.

I love that this stick has such a big surface area. Bigger is better with this baby! I rubbed a large amount in a circular motion onto the tip of my nose and the result was perfect. The finish is quite dewy so I did matte it down with my MUA loose powder. If you’re looking for a more subtle sheen cream highlight, then this should 100% be in your collection! Also, it looks really cute if you rub a little on your ears and wear a messy bun. #NewTrendAlert.

MUA Eyeshadow 15 Shade Palette – Green Goddess and Au Naturel

The excitement I felt when these palettes arrived in my post box was unreal. I LOVE eyeshadow, especially brown hues. Au Naturel is my everyday go to palette now, its outshone the Too Fact Sweet Peach Palette. Thats how much I love it. I don’t think there is a shade in here that I won’t use. The pigment is amazing, its creamy and blends out so smoothly. It’s also only £4.00 at the moment from Superdrug so if you’re a lover of brown shades, you MUST own this product. My favourite combination so far has been shade numbers 9 & 10.

Being as I had so much fun with the Au Naturel palette, I have not yet had a chance to delve into the Green Goddess palette. I have never felt able to rock a green eye, unfortunately. That being said, I know my sister loves a good array of shades so she will be happy to read it is being donated to her make up collection. However, If I were to crack it open I know it would be equally as pigmented and beautiful. Shades 9 & 12 are immediately catching my attention. I do believe that these shades will also look amazing as a singular shade blended out. I do find there is quite a lot of fat out with these powders, so I would recommend building colour in small dabs.

MUA PRISM – Strobe Cream – Flash and Golden Ray

Can you guess which one I opened quicker than lightening? If you said Golden Ray, then you go Glen Coco! 100 Points to Gryffindor.

This cream highlight smells insanely good as a little FYI. It also looks stunning. Very shimmery with a golden undertone. Its definitely one I’m going to savour until the summer so I can dab a little on my shoulders as well as my brow bone. The formula is very smooth, rich and creamy. A little goes a long way with this stuff too. I used about a pea sized amount the first time and managed to do both cheeks, brow bone and upper lip groove. This can take about a minute to dry but its well worth the wait.

Flash is a sheer pale pinkish tone. I found it very subtle but beautiful all the same. It is perfect for the inner eye glow that’s popular at the moment. I also feel as though it would be great to add into foundation for a more glowing finish. I wish I had thought of doing that before I wrote this review actually. However, there is always tomorrow to test it out!

MUA Eyeshadow – 6 Shade Palette – Rusted Wonders

A question for you, have you ever found a palette that you have used every shade of? If not, allow me to introduce you to the Rusted Wonders palette! Again, its a variation of brown hues which just screams my name. Make Up Academy is serving me with all the looks this season!

These little pans have upped my eyeshadow game. The formula is very silky and so bendable. You can create a subtle glow with the golds or a sultry smokey eye with the beautiful burgundy shade. The moment this was delivered, it was put in my make up bag. I do not regret that decision AT ALL. Its also a perfect pairing with the Au Naturel palette if you want to use a more muted shade as a base and one of these as a cut crease shade.

Final Thoughts?

Make Up Academy is a brand that constantly provides quality at a low cost. If you haven’t already, please pop in to your local Superdrug store and check them out.

If you only picked one item from this review I would strongly recommend the 6 Shade Palette as the pigment and longevity of these powders is unbeatable. They also come in 8 shades (Listed Below), so you are bound the find the perfect one to match your eyeshadow shade preferences. I’m eyeing up Soft Suedes and Coral Delights for my next payday treats!

Kitty and the City

A few weeks ago, Kitty (the babe) invited me out for some food and sunny hangs in London. I did actually have plans with my cat that day. However, he said we should start seeing other people because I’m suffocating him. With that, I donned my London comfies and headed out to the train station!

If you’re not from London, the sheer mention of spending a day there is like being told that the all you can eat buffet extends to desserts. It’s just magical, you can always find something fun and exciting to do! The sun was beaming down on us which made the day feel even more perfect.

We met in Southwark and headed to a restaurant called Tibits for the launch of their new summer menu. Kitty is a lifestyle and fashion blogger who finds the best vegan and gluten free eats in cities around the UK so, I trusted her judgement. I can also never, ever turn down free food!

After a quick speech from the chefs about the inspiration behind the new menu. We were asked to sample EVERYTHING and give an honest opinion (Thanks Kitty). All the dishes are Vegetarian and most are also Vegan which Is brilliant. It’s SO important for restaurants (and chains) to acknowledge the intolorences and choices of others nowadays.

I went a little bit crazy but it was totally worth every extra pound I put on.

As mentioned, Kitty is Vegan and GF but as you can see, there was no shortage of food for her to sample!

Kudos to you, Tibits!

Spoiler Alert – I  will be running back ASAP with my boyfriend!

The interior was also pretty incredible. I was blown away by the cuteness of the bathroom which had a big industrial vibe. There were succulents everywhere, an indoor/outdoor courtyard area and window seating for those that love to watch the world go by (guilty). Did I mention the succulents? I’m such a sucker for plants so I was in my element!

After filling our stomachs, we headed through southwark to get some ‘Gram photos and then onto Tate Modern to kill a little time and because I’ve never been before. The Bruce Nauman exhibition was pretty incredible and insane all in one go. We also took some awesome photos for the ‘Gram while we were here too. I am such a sucker for a good museum and the Tate Modern is definitely one to revisit when I have a few hours to spare.

Side Note: I REALLY want to visit the London Transport Museum and The British War Museum too!

We finished off the day with an unexpected wander through Borough Market. If you’ve never been, I really really do recommend it even if it’s just a sweeping visit! After grabbing some GF cake for my homegirl and a fruit smoothie each we sat down to enjoy the last bit of sunshine that the day had for us.

MUA – Prism Highlighters – Why I LOVE them!

VickiAmaya MUA

A long, long time ago a package arrived at my doorstep that contained nine incredible highlighters, sent by the amazing team at FBBeauty. The brand was MUA (Make Up Academy), a brand I have used time and time again. Their Luxe Bronze and Sculpt Contour Kit is a must have, their Matte Lipsticks come in some amazing shades (for £1.00 each!) and their Undress Your Skin Highlight is so dreamy! If you’re doing beauty on a budget you HAVE to try this brand, it does not disappoint.

I did originally post a little video on Instagram about this package, which you may remember. Since then I have used them to death and enjoyed every single moment.

The Prism Highlighter (circular pans) are available in five shades:

Polarised Green

Aquatic Shine (Blue)

Rose Tinted (Pink)

Solar Flare (Peach)

Ultra Violet (Violet)

These are your everyday pressed powder highlighters. They pack tons of pigment with even with the lightest of brush strokes and will gleam and glisten on your skin. I have been using the shade Ultra Violet for about two months now to highlight my brow bone and temples. It does not disappoint in staying power. Something else to add is that it does looks white in the pot. However, when it hits your skin the colour transforms into a beautiful muted violet tone.

Prism Loose Powder Highlighter

. I have the shade Star Illusion (they are also available in Oceanic Wonder and Emerald Marvel). It is iridesant and very striking! I usually stay clear from loose powdered anything because I find it:

1. Makes a mess.

2. Absorbs into my skin.

3. Doesn’t have staying power

My god was I surprised by this one though! It is the perfect consistency for use on your nose and cupids bow and looks spellbinding in the sunshine. Plus, I have tons left which is an achievement for me as anything loose powdered normally gets dropped and goes everywhere… The joys of clumsiness.

Prism Jelly Highlight

Finally and most versatile in my opinion, we have the three shade palettes. These are the Prism Jelly Highlight, highlighters (a first for me) and I’ve already hit pan with the Optical palette. The peach tone was phenomenal on the tip of my nose and under my eyebrow bone, The darker brown shade is my go to sheen supplier for layering on top of my powder contour  to give it some extra depth and the lighter copper shade is the perfect bronzer. I also use it for blending up and into the cheekbone highlight! All of which I achieve with two blush brushes!

These shades also work amazingly on top of a smokey brown eye look to add just a hint of a dewy glow. They are called “Jelly Highlights” due to the consistancy when in the pan but they still appear very matte when applied as above (in my opinion). So if like me, you usually avoid anything without MATTE plastered over the front, please rest assured that these will not leave you feeling like an oil slick.

The other two palettes are:

Light Spark – in White, Cream and Gold

and

Crystal Cut – in Grey, Green and Violet

After writing this, I had to jump into the Light Spark palette and it is now being used every day as a transition from cheek to temple.

Also, I promised Light Spark to my sister once I’d finished my review so now I need to go out and buy a new one (Sorry Shelley)

What is your favourite highlighter at the moment? Do you have any that you would recommend? Let me know as I love hearing from you!

How To Get Your Blogger Mojo Back

VickiAmaya

Hello Lovelies,

How are you?

For those of you that didn’t realise, I’ve been on a little break recently.

As a Blogger and Instagrammer, my life used to revolve around creating content that I wanted you to love. However, I wasn’t creating content that I loved. I was constantly comparing myself to others. Constantly stressed, anxious and unhappy. Spending hours flicking through photos, assessing blogs and profiles to try and find out why certain people were so popular. I would check my Instagram account about 50 times a day, liking hundreds of photos, leaving comments and obsessing over analytics.

On the 13th February 2018, I stopped posting content on my Instagram and blog. I finally let myself breathe.

Today I want to talk to you in depth about Blogging, Instagramming and how to beat the Blogger Overload that I’ve heard so many people talk about.

“Blogger Overload”

Constantly talking, thinking, viewing and creating for your social media channels with no downtime.

Before I dive head first into how to fix this dastardly dilemma, I feel like I should first explain what happened that tipped me over the edge.

I’d been thinking and feeling that my content wasn’t up to my usual standards. The theme wasn’t as white as I wanted it, the pictures weren’t coming out as I’d hoped. They didn’t look anything like the popular photos that have hundreds of thousands of likes. The outfits weren’t good enough. My figure needed to be tucked here, there and my skin smoothed out. One of those truly crummy moments where everything can and was scrutinised…

We needed a photo to post that evening as we hadn’t been out that day to take any. I was setting up my lighting to take a mirror shot when, I dropped the bulb and it shattered into a thousand tiny pieces. I stood looking at the little specks of white frosted glass for what felt like a lifetime and then the tears started to pour.

Was I  actually, really sobbing over a broken light bulb? Yes, I really was…

The broken lightbulb meant that I couldn’t upload a new photo that evening. I would have to do a re-upload and I was vastly running out of photos I even liked enough to feature again.

Adam ran up the stairs, saw my tear stained face, the glass on the floor and ushered me out of the way. I took five ginormous breaths and tried to compose myself. How could I not have any photos to upload? What kind of person was I? I’m a fraud Instagrammer. I’m not even a good Blogger. (Seriously?!…). All thoughts of self doubt and loathing that would have never even hovered in my mind not two years prior.

It was then that I realised I needed to stop. To take a break and re-evaluate what I’m trying to do with my accounts. I needed to get back in touch with the reason I got into this in the first place and why I love doing it. The reason I call myself a Blogger and Instagrammer!

It’s all about the little steps!

One of the first things I stopped doing was checking my social media apps every day. The Vicki before this cataclysmic event would have been scrolling through her feed constantly to make sure she liked EVERY photo from her followers list (You’re all welcome btw 😂). Instead, I have been going on, replying to a few messages from friends and then closing the app off again. I feel like this has really helped to clarify that my life does not depend on social media. After all, I am a fully functioning member of the non cyber world too! *I also just realised that I’m older than the internet, wow…*

Another tactic I adopted to combat this feeling of unworthiness was to unfollow any person that I was consistently comparing myself too (harsh but true). That way, I didn’t have the conscious or subconscious thoughts of not being good enough when seeing their posts! Whilst I can target the feelings of jealousy and envy without unfollowing people, it felt good to admit defeat with this one. I’ve never been a jealous person, so I find it helpful to understand the aspect of others successes that unsettles me. Something which I can continue to research and work on!

Another great stress reliever was to unfollow ANY brand that didn’t genuinely inspire my fashion choices. I mean, why follow any brand that doesn’t inspire you? There is no obligation to follow a brand just because they followed you. Follow them because you genuinely love what they do, otherwise its just clogging up your feed.

My purchasing habits were the next thing that needed to change. Where before, I would try to find things that I felt my beautiful followers would love and appreciate. I’m now buying things that I love and genuinely want to wear! The whole reason my account grew to such a following is because I was sharing my own style. Somewhere along the way and unfortunately so, my purpose got lost and the likes became more important than my style. Whilst my page exists to inspire and support every one that follows it. I also want to create an income for me through it so I can build my little empire of empowerment. If you want to learn more about that, click here to read my “All About Me” post! (Paragraph 12 for the lazy people here!)

Okay, Don’t use Social Media, unfollow some stuff and only buy shit you love…  what else?

I’m very glad you asked! Once you’ve spent a few days back in reality where social justice warriors can’t throw keys at you and where cats are just balls of fluff you’ll probably start to feel a little more inspired . After all, you’ve not been bombarded with ugly bulky trainers (sneakers), coffee body scrubs, an a line skirt and slogan tee on the streets of London or that fucking pink cake shop (sorry blogger friends).

Use that inspiration as a basis. Get some magazines and go old school with them, cut them up and make outfits you love. Get onto Pinterest and make some clothing boards! Go back to the high street and try on different styles that you love! Once you feel you’ve really tackled the drought and your creativity is flowing, go back into your wardrobe and start rocking your style again. At least, that’s what I did and I’ve been having the time of my life! I understand that this bit is specific to fashion bloggers, but you can apply it in every area of life.

If you’re constantly surrounding yourself with stale information or marketing ploys, how can you possibly feel inspired? Creativity comes from within. You can TOTALLY take inspiration from others, but go your own way with that inspiration otherwise you’ll just be another opinion with an internet connection…
